caprice wheels different then 9c1 wheels?

Postby tommytumolo » Thu Oct 13, 2011 4:36 pm

thanks for the site..its great....

I have a 95 impala ss and im taking off the stock ss wheels and want to put on black steel 15 inch wheels for the winter .
I bought 2 wheels already.
A 9c1 police package steel black wheel with the holes in the rim with a bolt on centercap
AND
A factory caprice LS NON police wheel that is an alloy (honeycomb style)

The factory caprice ls one does not fit and the 9c1 wheel does.

WHY?

I thought all caprice wheels are interchangeable with SS

SS has the same rear as a 9c1 and the same 5x5 bolt pattern. Civillian cars had the 7.5 inch rear with the 5x 4.5 (4.75?) bolt pattern.

Thats not true. My 96 9c1 has 94-96 ss wheels that came on my 95 civi. The civi now has alloys and uses police package steelies in the winter. '90 to '91-'06 are the only difference I think. So, all bubble caprice wheels are interchangeable with the SS. The SS does not have the same rear as a 9C1. It has the same gear ratio, and G80 was also an option, but the carriers are different by 5/8 inch width on both sides. 9C1 rears are narrow to fit snow chains for municipal use.

Is it because the civi wheel wont clear the rear disc brakes?

That is a good question. I have never tried putting civi wheels on a 9C1. Only the N97's and SS rims. I can give it a try if anyone id interested otherwise i'll pass. Do you mean that the bolt pattern is different?
